Sport Business Management
Sport business management addresses one of the most dynamic and commercially significant sectors in the contemporary economy. Sport is no longer simply a set of games played for enjoyment; it is a global industry encompassing professional clubs and leagues, broadcasting and media rights, sponsorship and endorsement, event management, facility development, sports technology, and the wellness and fitness sector. Managing within this industry requires people who understand both the distinctive culture and values of sport and the business, marketing, and leadership fundamentals that any commercial or organisational role demands.
At St Mark and St John you will develop the management, business, and leadership skills needed for career success in sport-related businesses, alongside a genuine understanding of the sporting context in which those skills are applied. The programme covers sports marketing, event management, commercial strategy, governance and ethics in sport, financial management, human resources, and the legal and regulatory dimensions of sport as a commercial activity. You will engage with real sport businesses and develop an understanding of how sport organisations create value, manage their relationships with fans and sponsors, and navigate the complex balance between commercial imperatives and sporting integrity.
Graduates go on to careers in sports management, event management, sports marketing and communications, facility and venue management, sports technology businesses, governing bodies, and commercial management roles within sporting organisations. The management and leadership skills the degree develops are also applicable in the broader events, leisure, and entertainment industries. Many graduates go on to postgraduate study in sports management or business, while others move directly into graduate roles in professional sport.
