The Role & Expectations
Dockers, slingers and stevedores play a crucial role in the logistics and shipping sectors, primarily working at ports and docks to handle cargo. Their responsibilities include loading and unloading containers from ships, ensuring that goods are safely secured for transport, and operating heavy machinery such as cranes and forklifts. This role requires not only physical strength and stamina but also a keen understanding of safety protocols and the ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Daily Responsibilities
- Operating cranes and other heavy machinery to load and unload cargo from ships
- Securing cargo using slings, ropes, and other equipment to ensure safe transport
- Conducting safety checks on equipment and machinery before use
- Coordinating with ship crews and port authorities to manage the flow of goods
- Maintaining accurate records of cargo movements and inventory
