About this course

Accounting and finance is a combination that develops the technical skills for recording and analysing financial information alongside the broader financial knowledge required to understand investment, capital markets and corporate financial decision-making. Accounting equips you to prepare and interpret financial statements, apply management accounting techniques, understand taxation and audit, and navigate the regulatory frameworks that govern financial reporting. Finance examines how organisations raise and deploy capital, how financial assets are priced, how risk is managed and how financial markets operate.

Together they form the core knowledge base of a professional career in finance or accounting.

At the University of Kent you will study accounting and finance with a year abroad, extending the programme to four years and giving you the opportunity to study at an international partner institution. The year abroad broadens your perspective on how financial systems and accounting practice operate in different national and economic contexts, adding an international dimension that is increasingly valued by global employers and postgraduate programmes. You will study across both the technical accounting and financial analysis dimensions of the degree, developing the quantitative skills and professional knowledge that accounting and finance employers expect from graduates.

The typical tariff of 120 reflects a programme accessible to students from a range of educational backgrounds.

Graduates are well placed for careers in accounting, auditing, corporate finance, financial analysis, investment management, banking, consultancy and the public sector. Many pursue professional qualifications through bodies such as the ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA or CFA, using the degree as a foundation for chartered qualification. Others progress to postgraduate study in finance, accounting or management.

The year abroad strengthens your graduate profile, particularly for roles in international firms or organisations with significant cross-border operations. Kent's position in the South East of England also provides strong connectivity to London's financial services sector for students seeking placements and graduate employment.

Highly recommend
I was sceptical before starting β€” now I'd recommend it to anyone. The best part: the cohort are bright and motivated, which makes the learning environment great. If I'm honest, would like to see more industry guest speakers in later years. …
