About this course

Accounting and finance with business analytics is a degree that recognises how profoundly data and technology are reshaping the financial profession. Accounting and finance provide the conceptual and technical foundations: the ability to record, report and interpret financial information, analyse investment and financing decisions, and manage risk and value in organisational contexts. Business analytics adds the data science dimension, developing your skills in working with large data sets, applying statistical and machine learning methods, visualising patterns and communicating data-driven insight to decision-makers.

At Abertay University, this four-year full-time degree is available on an advanced entry basis for students with appropriate prior qualifications, and it includes a year abroad as part of the programme.

You will study financial and management accounting, corporate finance, financial markets and investment alongside business analytics content including data modelling, programming, statistical analysis, business intelligence tools and the application of analytical methods to financial and commercial problems. Abertay's technology-oriented approach to business education gives the analytics component a practical character, with hands-on experience of the tools and platforms used in professional financial analytics roles. A typical entry tariff of around 104 points is expected for standard entry, though the advanced entry route requires different qualifications.

Graduates are well placed for careers in financial analysis, management accounting, data analytics in financial services, FinTech, business intelligence and commercial finance. The combination of accounting knowledge and data analytics skills is increasingly in demand as financial organisations move to more data-driven decision-making processes. Many graduates also pursue professional qualifications in accounting through the major professional bodies, while others go on to postgraduate study in accounting, finance or data science.
