About this course

Accounting and finance is the discipline concerned with how organisations record, report, and manage their financial resources, and how financial decisions are made and evaluated. Accounting provides the language in which economic activity is measured and communicated, enabling managers, investors, regulators, and others to understand the financial position of an organisation and to hold it to account. Finance examines how money flows through markets and institutions, how risk is assessed and managed, and how investment decisions are made.

Together they provide a comprehensive picture of how financial value is created, reported, and distributed.

At Arden University this four-year programme includes a foundation year, offering a supported entry point for students who need to build foundational skills and knowledge before beginning the main degree. You will study the core areas of accounting and finance, including financial accounting, management accounting, taxation, corporate finance, investment, and the regulatory frameworks within which financial professionals operate. The programme develops the technical competences that employers in accounting and finance look for, alongside the broader analytical and communication skills that support a professional career.

Graduates from accounting and finance programmes are sought after across a wide range of organisations. Many go on to qualify as chartered accountants, chartered management accountants, or chartered certified accountants, working towards professional qualifications that are well-recognised internationally. Others move into roles in financial analysis, investment banking, corporate finance, treasury management, audit, and financial planning.

The public sector, the charity sector, and technology companies also employ accounting and finance graduates in significant numbers. The foundation year ensures that students who might not otherwise have met the standard entry requirements for a degree programme have a genuine pathway into a professionally valuable qualification.
