Acting is the art of inhabiting another human being truthfully and convincingly in front of an audience. It demands physical, vocal, and psychological discipline, the capacity to be genuinely present in the moment, and the technical skill to repeat a performance while making it feel as if it is happening for the first time. Training as an actor involves more than learning lines: it requires you to understand how a character is constructed, how to use your body and voice as expressive instruments, and how to collaborate with directors, designers, and fellow performers.

At Anglia Ruskin University, this three-year full-time programme develops your skills as a confident and versatile performer across a range of contexts and forms. You will focus on fundamental acting skills, building a technique that can support you across stage, screen, and emerging performance environments. Voice and movement training develop the physical and vocal resources you need to bring characters to life, while screen acting introduces you to the particular demands of working in front of a camera, where scale, stillness, and naturalism operate differently from the theatre.

Rehearsal process is treated as a subject in itself, and you will develop the ability to explore, experiment, and refine your work in preparation for full productions. You will grow into a performer who can take direction, generate ideas, and sustain concentration under pressure, which are the qualities that professional environments demand. The typical entry tariff is 120 UCAS points.

Graduates from acting programmes go into theatre, film, television, and radio work, as well as applied theatre settings such as theatre in education, healthcare, and community practice. Many combine performing with teaching, directing, writing, or other creative work. Further study options include postgraduate performance programmes and specialist training in areas such as physical theatre, musical theatre, or voice.
