Adult Nursing
Adult nursing is a profession built on the ability to observe carefully, think clinically, and respond with both competence and compassion. Nurses working with adults manage complex and often long-term conditions, support patients through acute illness, and work alongside families and multidisciplinary teams to deliver care that is safe, evidence-based, and centred on the individual. The role demands scientific knowledge, practical skill, emotional intelligence, and the capacity to make sound judgements under pressure.
At Bangor University, this three-year full-time degree prepares you for registration as a nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. You will study the biological and social sciences that underpin nursing practice, developing an understanding of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and the psychological dimensions of health and illness. Alongside this academic grounding, you will spend significant time in a range of clinical placements, building practical skills in real care settings across hospital wards, community health services, and other environments.
The programme develops your ability to assess patients, plan and deliver care, manage medications, and communicate effectively with patients, relatives, and colleagues. Bangor's location in north Wales means placements are available across a distinctive mix of urban, rural, and Welsh-language settings, giving you breadth of experience that shapes a well-rounded practitioner.
With a typical entry tariff of 136 UCAS points, the programme is open to students who combine academic ability with a genuine commitment to caring for others. Graduates register with the NMC and enter practice as qualified adult nurses, typically taking up posts in NHS hospitals, community trusts, care homes, and specialist services. With experience, nurses progress into senior clinical roles, specialist nursing, nursing management, or advanced practice.
Postgraduate routes include master's-level clinical training, nurse prescribing, and research degrees, and many experienced nurses move into education, shaping the next generation of the profession.
