Agriculture is one of the oldest and most fundamental human activities, but as a university discipline it is far from merely traditional. Modern agricultural science draws on plant biology, soil science, animal science, genetics, environmental science, economics, and technology to address one of the defining challenges of our time: producing enough food for a growing world population while managing land sustainably, reducing emissions, and adapting to a changing climate. Understanding how farms, food systems, and rural environments work requires both scientific depth and practical experience.

At Nottingham Trent University, which has a strong reputation in land-based studies and operates its own farm, this three-year full-time programme gives you a thorough grounding in the biological and environmental sciences that underpin agricultural practice, alongside the business and management skills needed to run agricultural enterprises effectively. You will study crop production, soil management, animal husbandry, agri-technology, and the policy and environmental frameworks within which British and global agriculture operates. NTU's farm provides a distinctive practical learning environment that brings the science directly to life.

Graduates of agriculture programmes pursue careers in farm management, agronomy, agricultural consultancy, food production, rural estate management, environmental management, agricultural policy, and supply chain roles in the food and farming sector. The UK and global food system employs graduates across a wide range of commercial, technical, and advisory roles, and the growing emphasis on sustainability and precision farming creates new opportunities for those with the right scientific and technological skills. Further study in agricultural science, agribusiness, environmental management, or land management is open to graduates who wish to specialise.
