Regenerative agriculture represents a fundamental rethink of how food is produced. Rather than treating the land as a resource to be maximised, it works with natural systems to restore soil health, increase biodiversity and build the long-term resilience of farming landscapes. Understanding this approach requires you to engage with ecology, agronomy, soil science, land management and the social and economic context of food production.

This degree at Anglia Ruskin University places regenerative thinking at its heart, asking you to become a practitioner who can work with natural processes rather than against them.

Over three years of full-time study, you will examine how conventional agricultural systems have shaped landscapes and ecosystems, and explore the principles and practices of regenerative alternatives. You will study topics including soil biology and carbon cycles, agroforestry, integrated pest management, livestock systems, water management and farm business planning. Practical and field-based learning is central to this kind of degree, and you will develop hands-on experience alongside theoretical understanding.

You will also engage with the policy landscape around food, farming and environmental management, understanding the frameworks that shape what farmers can do and the incentives available to them.

Careers from this degree span farming itself, land management, conservation, agricultural consultancy, rural policy, environmental NGOs and the growing agri-food sector focused on sustainable supply chains. Graduates may work for government agencies, farming charities, food businesses committed to sustainable sourcing, or run their own enterprises. Further study in environmental management, ecology or agricultural science is also a natural next step, and the field is attracting increasing attention and investment as the urgency of sustainable food production grows.
