Livestock technology sits at the productive heart of the UK food system. Cattle, sheep, pigs, poultry and other farmed animals are central to British agriculture, and managing them well demands a combination of biological understanding, technical skill and practical judgement that this degree develops directly. At Anglia Ruskin University, this three-year full-time programme gives you hands-on experience with livestock alongside the theoretical knowledge that underpins good professional practice. You will study animal nutrition and physiology, genetics and breeding, herd and flock health management, housing and welfare systems, farm technology and the legislative framework governing animal agriculture. You will examine how precision livestock farming technologies are changing the way animals are monitored and managed, and you will develop practical skills in handling, husbandry and farm operations.

The programme encourages you to think critically about the sustainability and welfare dimensions of livestock production as well as its technical and commercial aspects.

Graduates from this programme move into careers in livestock farming, farm management, agricultural consultancy, veterinary nursing, animal health representation and the agricultural supply industry, including feed, genetics and pharmaceutical companies. Many work for government agencies involved in animal health and welfare, or for organisations developing more sustainable agricultural systems.
