Applied Psychology with foundation year

Applied psychology is the study of the mind and behaviour with particular emphasis on its real-world and clinical applications, asking not just how psychological science explains human experience but how it can be used to improve lives, solve problems and support people in specific contexts. At Coventry University this four-year, full-time programme includes a foundation year, giving you a supported route into the degree for those who would benefit from additional academic preparation before the main degree content begins. You will study the core areas of psychology, including cognitive, social, developmental, biological and forensic psychology, alongside the research methods and statistical skills that underpin scientific practice. Applied topics are integrated throughout, connecting psychological science to real-world contexts such as health, clinical practice, educational settings, workplace wellbeing and community mental health.

The programme also includes a sandwich year, a year abroad and a work placement, all of which provide direct professional experience in psychological or social care settings and an international perspective on the field.

Graduates enter careers in mental health services, educational settings, healthcare, human resources, coaching, research, social care and a wide range of applied contexts. For those wishing to practise as a clinical, counselling, forensic or educational psychologist, postgraduate training and supervised experience are required after graduation, and the British Psychological Society Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership that this accredited degree confers is the starting point for that pathway.
