Architectural Technology and Design

At UWE Bristol you will study this three-year full-time programme, developing skills in architectural design alongside a rigorous grounding in construction technology, building information modelling, environmental performance, and the technical production that turns design intent into constructed reality. The programme includes a sandwich year, a year abroad, and a work placement, giving you substantial professional and international experience alongside your academic study. Architectural technology graduates work in architectural practices, engineering consultancies, contractor organisations, client-side project teams, and local authority building control. Roles include architectural technologist, BIM coordinator, technical architect, and building information manager. The profession is regulated by the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists, and many graduates pursue chartered membership.
The combination of design sensitivity and technical knowledge is also valued in property development, construction management, and sustainable building consultancy. Many graduates continue to postgraduate study in architectural technology, sustainable architecture, or construction project management.
