About this course

Architectural technology is the discipline that bridges the gap between architectural design and building science, focusing on the technical, regulatory, and environmental dimensions of how buildings are constructed and perform. Where architecture concentrates on spatial and aesthetic vision, architectural technology ensures that those visions can be realised safely, efficiently, sustainably, and in compliance with building regulations and standards. Architectural technologists work on the technical design of buildings, the specification of materials and systems, and the resolution of the complex interface between structure, fabric, and services.

Birmingham City University's four-year full-time BSc (Hons) Architectural Technology with Foundation Year sits, as the course puts it, where the science of construction meets the art of design, focusing not only on the creation of the built environment but on the structuring of space within and around it.
