Architecture is the art and science of designing buildings and the spaces between them. It is a discipline that brings together aesthetic judgement, technical knowledge, and social purpose, asking how the built environment can serve human needs while also having meaning, beauty, and durability. At London South Bank University, this four-year full-time programme begins with a foundation year, which provides an introduction to design thinking, drawing, model-making, and the technical fundamentals of architectural study. This starting point is especially valuable for students who want a more gradual transition into the intensity of architectural education, or who are developing their portfolio and foundational skills before entering the main degree. Once into the degree itself, you will move through progressively more complex design projects, studying architectural history and theory alongside technical subjects including structures, environmental design, and construction technology.

You will develop your ability to represent ideas through drawing, physical models, and digital tools, and to communicate your design intentions clearly to different audiences.
