About this course

Artificial intelligence and computer science together form one of the most significant fields of study in contemporary technology. Computer science provides the foundational knowledge of algorithms, data structures, programming languages, systems design and the mathematical frameworks that underpin all software. Artificial intelligence extends this into the study of machine learning, neural networks, natural language processing, computer vision, knowledge representation and reasoning, asking how computational systems can exhibit and augment intelligent behaviour.

The combination prepares you to work at the frontier of technology, understanding both the tools and the principles that drive the field.

At the University of Edinburgh you will study in one of the world's leading institutions for both computer science and AI research, a place where the academic community is actively shaping the field you are learning about. Across four full-time years you will cover programming and software engineering, the mathematical foundations of computation, core areas of AI including machine learning and probabilistic modelling, and the ethical and social dimensions of intelligent systems.
