About this course

Artificial intelligence is transforming virtually every sector of modern life, from healthcare and education to finance, transport, and the arts. At its core, AI is about building systems that can learn, reason, perceive, and act in ways that were previously the exclusive province of human intelligence. Understanding how these systems work, what they can and cannot do, how they should be designed, and how they should be deployed in the world is one of the most important intellectual and practical challenges of the current era.

At Liverpool Hope University, this three-year full-time programme equips you with both the technical knowledge and the critical understanding to work at the frontier of this field. You will study the mathematical and computational foundations of machine learning, neural networks, natural language processing, computer vision, and intelligent systems. Alongside the technical content, you will engage seriously with the ethical, legal, and societal dimensions of AI, including questions about bias, transparency, accountability, and the impact of automation on work and society.

The programme emphasises responsible and effective use of AI, not just its technical construction. A sandwich year in industry and a year abroad are both available, and work placement experience is built in, giving you substantial professional exposure before you graduate and the chance to develop an international perspective on how AI is being developed and applied.
