About this course

Artificial intelligence is one of the most consequential technological fields of our time. It encompasses the design and development of systems that can perform tasks typically requiring human intelligence: learning from data, recognising patterns, making decisions, understanding language, and generating content. AI is reshaping industries from healthcare and finance to transport, entertainment and scientific research, and the demand for people who understand how these systems work, how to build them, and how to deploy them responsibly is growing rapidly across almost every sector.

At the University of Westminster, this three-year full-time degree is designed to equip you with the scientific and engineering foundations of AI alongside a clear-eyed understanding of its social, ethical and business implications. You will study machine learning, neural networks, data science, natural language processing, computer vision, robotics and intelligent systems, alongside the programming, mathematical and computational skills that underpin these fields. The programme is oriented toward practical application as well as theoretical understanding, preparing you to work on the kinds of problems that businesses and organisations actually face as AI transforms their operations.

A sandwich year placement, a year abroad, and a work placement are all available, giving you significant professional and international experience that deepens your technical knowledge and builds your professional network.

You will develop strong programming and analytical skills, the ability to design and evaluate AI systems, and the critical capacity to assess the ethical and societal dimensions of the technology you are working with. Both dimensions are increasingly important to employers and regulators.

Graduates from AI programmes at Westminster move into roles in software engineering, machine learning, data science, AI product development, research, consultancy, and a wide range of technology roles across finance, healthcare, media, logistics and the public sector.
