About this course

Medicine is a vocation as much as a discipline, demanding not just the mastery of an enormous body of scientific and clinical knowledge but a sustained commitment to the welfare of patients, to ethical practice, and to lifelong learning in a field that is always changing. Doctors must understand the biological mechanisms of disease, apply diagnostic reasoning under uncertainty, communicate clearly with patients across a wide range of circumstances, and work effectively within complex clinical teams. The degree that leads to medical qualification is one of the most demanding in higher education, and rightfully so.

At the Kent and Medway Medical School, a joint institution between the University of Kent and Canterbury Christ Church University, this five-year full-time programme prepares you for a broad and varied career in medicine. You will build deep knowledge of the biomedical sciences, clinical skills, and the professional and ethical frameworks that govern medical practice. The curriculum is designed around integrated learning, connecting the scientific foundations to real clinical contexts throughout your studies rather than treating them as separate stages.

You will gain diverse clinical experience across primary care, acute medicine, community settings, and mental health, as well as exposure to the major medical and surgical specialties. This breadth of experience is a deliberate feature of the programme and prepares you for the full range of career paths the profession offers.

With a typical entry tariff of 168 UCAS points, medicine is among the most competitive undergraduate admissions processes in the UK. Graduates enter the Foundation Programme as junior doctors before progressing through specialty training. Medicine opens routes into general practice, hospital medicine, surgery, psychiatry, public health, academic medicine, and research.

Many doctors develop subspecialty expertise through further postgraduate training, and some move into leadership, education, or health policy roles. The degree is a lifetime commitment to a profession that combines scientific rigour with human service.

Would do it again
I've grown so much academically and personally here. The best part: anatomy teaching here is particularly strong β€” full dissection experience. If I'm honest, admin can be slow to respond, especially at start of term. On the city β€” local cos…

This is the perfect place to study this subject. The best part: the cohort are bright and motivated, which makes the learning environment great. If I'm honest, accommodation allocation was stressful in the first year. On the city β€” local co…
