Biochemistry explores the chemical basis of life, examining the molecules that make up living organisms and the reactions that sustain them. At Nottingham Trent University, this four-year programme includes a foundation year designed to ensure you have the scientific foundations in biology, chemistry, and mathematics needed to engage fully with the main degree. The foundation year is a genuine bridge, giving students who are ready for biochemistry intellectually but who need additional preparation in the sciences the opportunity to build that foundation in a supportive environment. You will then study the core areas of biochemistry including molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, metabolic biochemistry, and the experimental techniques that are central to modern biochemical research.
