Biological Sciences with Placement Year
Biological sciences in its broadest sense is the study of life, from the molecular machinery inside cells to the populations and ecosystems that span the planet. It is a discipline of extraordinary scope, encompassing molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, physiology, ecology, evolution, and the biology of every major group of organisms from bacteria and viruses to plants and animals. At the University of Warwick, this four-year full-time degree is the most wide-ranging and flexible of the School of Life Sciences' programmes in terms of module choice. You will study the molecules and cells that form the basis of life, the biology of organisms across the full diversity of living things, and the population-level dynamics that underlie evolution, epidemiology, and ecosystem function. This breadth allows you to follow your interests as they develop, building depth in the areas that matter most to you while maintaining the cross-disciplinary perspective that makes biologists valuable across so many fields.
The programme includes a placement year, which gives you the opportunity to gain professional experience in a research or industry context, as well as a year abroad option. The typical entry tariff is 168 UCAS points.
Graduates of biological sciences programmes find careers in pharmaceutical and biotechnology research, NHS and clinical services, conservation and environmental science, food science, agricultural research, science education, and science communication. The flexibility of the Warwick programme is particularly well suited to students who are not yet certain where their biological interests will lead them. Many graduates also pursue postgraduate study in specific areas of biology, from molecular and cell biology to ecology and public health, deepening their expertise in the direction that best matches their ambitions.
