About this course

Biology is the science of life in all its extraordinary complexity, from the molecular machinery inside a single cell to the networks of species that make up a functioning ecosystem. It asks how living things are built, how they function, how they reproduce and how they have evolved into the millions of forms we observe today. Biology is a discipline at the heart of the most pressing questions facing human societies, including how to combat infectious disease, how to maintain food security in a changing climate, how to preserve biodiversity and how to develop new medicines and biotechnologies.

At the University of Nottingham, this three-year full-time programme, which includes a foundation year for those who need additional preparation before the main degree begins, a sandwich year, a year abroad and a work placement, offers one of the most comprehensive undergraduate biology experiences available. All candidates are considered on an individual basis and a broad range of qualifications is accepted. You will engage with the full breadth of biological science, from molecular and cell biology through physiology, ecology, evolution and conservation, building a foundation of knowledge that can support careers and further study across the life sciences.
