About this course

Biology is the science of life in all its forms, from the molecular machinery inside a single cell to the dynamics of whole ecosystems. It is a discipline of extraordinary scope, encompassing genetics, evolution, ecology, physiology, microbiology, and conservation, and it underpins our understanding of health, disease, food, and the environment. Studying biology at degree level means developing the practical and analytical skills to investigate living systems, to evaluate evidence, and to think rigorously about the complexity of the natural world.

At the University of Hull, this four-year full-time programme includes a year abroad, giving you the opportunity to study at a partner institution in another country. This international experience is embedded in the degree as a meaningful academic component, broadening your perspective on biological science and its practice in different research and cultural contexts. You will gain real-world practical skills in the laboratory and in the field, developing competence in experimental design, data collection and analysis, and scientific writing.

The ability to communicate important biological topics to diverse audiences is also central to the programme. Hull's department has a strong reputation for teaching quality, and you will learn in an environment that takes both student support and scientific rigour seriously.
