About this course

Biomedical engineering applies the principles of engineering to the challenges of medicine and biology, designing and developing the technologies that diagnose, monitor, and treat disease. It is the specialism behind MRI scanners, cochlear implants, prosthetic limbs, drug delivery systems, and the diagnostic devices that allow clinicians to understand what is happening inside the body without surgery. The combination of engineering rigour with biological understanding and medical context makes it a discipline that sits at the intersection of some of the most consequential fields of human endeavour.

At Manchester Metropolitan University, this three-year, full-time programme offers a direct route from technological innovation to human impact. You will study biomechanics, biomaterials, medical imaging, instrumentation, signal processing, and physiological systems, developing the engineering and biological knowledge needed to design and evaluate devices and systems for healthcare applications. A sandwich year is built into the programme, giving you a full year of professional experience in a biomedical engineering, healthcare technology, or research environment before you graduate.
