Biomedical Science

At Middlesex University in London, this part-time programme is available with a foundation year for students who need additional scientific preparation before engaging with the full degree curriculum. You will study the key areas of biomedical science, including clinical biochemistry, microbiology, haematology, immunology, cellular pathology and transfusion science, developing the theoretical understanding and practical laboratory skills that the discipline requires. The programme is professionally accredited, and a sandwich year and work placement are built in, giving you substantial laboratory experience in a professional clinical or research setting alongside your academic work.

Qualified Biomedical Scientists work in NHS hospital laboratories, private healthcare, blood transfusion services, research institutions, the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, and in regulatory and quality roles. Many develop specialist skills in particular areas of laboratory medicine as their careers progress. Others move into laboratory management, clinical research, or education and training roles.
