About this course

Biomedical science explores the scientific foundations of human health and disease, drawing on cell biology, genetics, biochemistry, physiology, and the laboratory disciplines that underpin clinical diagnosis and medical research. It is a field in which technological advances, particularly in genomics, proteomics, and integrative biology, have made the science more powerful and the range of questions addressable more ambitious than ever before. Biomedical scientists contribute to everything from the development of new diagnostic tests and treatments to the fundamental research that underpins clinical medicine.

At Warwick this four-year full-time programme includes a placement year, providing extended professional experience in a biomedical, pharmaceutical, or research setting before you complete your degree. A year abroad is also available. You will study across the processes of life from the molecular level through cellular and whole-organ physiology to the environmental and ecological dimensions that shape health outcomes, developing a genuinely integrative understanding of how biological systems work in both health and disease.

Graduates move into careers in pharmaceutical and biotechnology research, clinical laboratory science, NHS biomedical science, academic research, science management, and public health. Others pursue careers in science communication, medical writing, or regulatory affairs, where the combination of scientific knowledge and communication skill is directly valuable.
