Biomedicine with Research Placement

Biomedicine is the scientific study of human biology with a specific focus on health and disease, examining the cellular and molecular mechanisms that underlie illness and the biological processes through which the body maintains or loses health. You will study the core biomedical sciences including anatomy and physiology, molecular biology, genetics, microbiology, immunology, haematology, and clinical biochemistry, developing both theoretical understanding and strong practical laboratory skills. Data analysis, scientific writing, and the critical evaluation of published research are developed throughout.

Graduates in biomedicine work in clinical laboratories within the NHS and private healthcare, in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, in research organisations, and in regulatory and quality assurance roles. The degree provides a strong foundation for further professional training, including routes to registration as a biomedical scientist with the Health and Care Professions Council, and for postgraduate study at masters or doctoral level in biomedical science, molecular medicine, or related fields.
