Building Surveying

At Coventry University, this three-year full-time degree develops those capabilities through a combination of academic study, hands-on experience with industry-standard technology, and engagement with real-world projects.

You will study the technical foundations of surveying, including construction technology, structural principles, building pathology, contract administration, property law, and project management. Sustainability and innovation are woven through the curriculum, reflecting the profession's growing engagement with issues of energy performance, environmental impact, and adaptation to climate change. The programme includes a sandwich year, giving you an extended period of professional experience that many students find transformative, both in terms of technical skill development and in clarifying the direction they want to take after graduation.

A year abroad is also built in, offering the opportunity to study or work in an international context and to understand how construction and surveying practice differs across different regulatory and cultural environments. Work placement opportunities are integrated throughout, and the typical entry tariff is 88 UCAS points.

Graduates pursue careers as building surveyors in private practice, local authorities, housing associations, property developers, and heritage bodies. Many work towards chartered status with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, which the programme is designed to support. Construction project management, property consultancy, and facilities management are also common routes.
