About this course

Business analytics is the practice of using data to drive better organisational decisions. It sits at the intersection of business strategy, statistics, and computing, and it has become central to how companies across every sector manage their operations, understand their customers, reduce risk, and identify opportunities. As organisations generate more data than ever before, the ability to extract meaningful insight from it, and to communicate that insight in ways that inform action, is one of the most consistently in-demand skill sets in the modern economy.

At the University of Bristol this programme includes a foundation year before the main three-year degree, giving you a thorough grounding in the quantitative and computational foundations of the subject before you progress to more advanced analytical work. You will study statistical methods, data modelling, and business intelligence alongside the strategic and management frameworks that give analytical work its context and purpose. You will develop skills in working with data tools and techniques used in professional settings, and you will learn to interpret findings in ways that are relevant to decision-makers across functions including finance, operations, marketing, and logistics.

Technology, retail, banking, insurance, and healthcare are among the sectors the programme prepares you to work in.

Graduates from business analytics programmes are in strong demand across a wide range of industries. Roles in data analysis, business intelligence, operations research, financial analysis, and strategy are all well-matched to this degree. Many graduates move into consultancy or technology firms, while others join large organisations in internal analytics or commercial functions.

Postgraduate study in data science, management science, or business is another direction for those who want to deepen their expertise or move into research.
