About this course

Business and artificial intelligence is a degree built on the recognition that AI is no longer a specialist technology but a driving force of digital transformation across every sector of the economy. The organisations that will thrive in the coming decades are those that understand how to integrate AI tools and insights into strategy, operations, and decision-making. This degree prepares you to be at the forefront of that transformation, developing both the business leadership skills and the technical literacy to shape how AI is applied in real organisations.

At the University of Southampton you will study across four years on a full-time programme, with a period of study abroad that extends your academic experience internationally. The programme develops your understanding of business strategy, management, marketing, operations, and finance alongside a substantive grounding in artificial intelligence and business analytics. You will learn how machine learning, data analysis, natural language processing, and automation are changing how organisations understand their markets, serve their customers, and manage their operations.

Leadership skills and the practical experience of applying AI in business contexts are developed throughout, preparing you not just to understand AI but to lead organisations through the changes it brings. Southampton's strong research base in computer science and artificial intelligence enriches the technical content of the programme.

Graduates of business and AI are sought after across a wide range of organisations. Technology companies, management consultancies, financial services firms, retail and consumer goods businesses, and public sector organisations are all employers of graduates who can bridge the gap between business strategy and AI capability. Roles in business analytics, strategy, digital transformation, product management, and AI implementation are all common directions.

The degree is well suited to graduates who see themselves in leadership positions where technical understanding and commercial judgement need to work together. Further study at postgraduate level in business, data science, or AI is available for those who wish to deepen their expertise.

Highly recommend
I've grown so much academically and personally here. The best part: you finish with a portfolio that recruiters take seriously. If I'm honest, first-year classes can be quite large. On the city β€” local cost of living is manageable if you sh…

Would do it again
Honestly, one of the best decisions I've made. The best part: the lecturers include people actively shipping research to industry. If I'm honest, accommodation allocation was stressful in the first year. On the city β€” good transport links m…
