About this course

Business computing and IT sits at the junction of two fields that increasingly need each other. Technology organisations need people who understand business, and business organisations need people who can think about technology strategically. This degree develops both, preparing you to act as a bridge between technical teams and management, to evaluate digital systems from a business perspective, and to contribute to decisions about how organisations adopt, deploy, and derive value from technology.

At Aston University, the BSc in Business Computing and IT runs over four years full-time and includes a year abroad, giving you an international dimension to complement your technical and business education. You will study computing fundamentals alongside modules in management, strategy, project management, and data analytics, developing an understanding of how IT systems are designed, implemented, and governed within real organisational settings. The programme covers areas such as systems analysis, database management, software development, digital transformation, and enterprise systems, always with attention to the business context in which these tools operate.

You will develop both technical competence and the kind of business literacy that allows you to communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders, manage IT projects, and think about technology investment in terms of risk and return. The year abroad broadens your perspective and adds international experience that employers find genuinely valuable.

Graduates are well placed for roles in IT consultancy, systems analysis, project management, business analysis, digital transformation, and technology strategy. Many move into management roles relatively quickly, given their ability to translate between technical and business domains. The degree also provides a solid foundation for postgraduate study in information systems, business administration, or technology management.

A great decision
Coming here has changed how I think. The best part: the teaching staff are genuinely world-class and accessible. If I'm honest, the timetable has some awkward 9am / Friday afternoon slots. On the city β€” local cost of living is manageable if…
