About this course

Business computing sits at the intersection of information technology and business management, concerned with how digital systems are designed, implemented, and used to support organisational goals. It is a discipline that recognises that the most valuable IT professionals are not simply technical experts but people who understand business processes and can design information systems that genuinely serve the organisations they are built for. As digital transformation becomes central to how organisations in every sector operate, the demand for graduates who can bridge technology and business has grown substantially.

At Brunel University London this four-year full-time programme, which includes a placement year and a foundation year, provides a rigorous but practically grounded education in both dimensions. The foundation year builds the academic and technical foundations needed before engaging with degree-level content. The placement year provides a sustained period of professional experience in an industry environment, which is one of the most valuable elements of a business computing degree given how directly the skills transfer to real organisations.

You will develop skills in programming, systems analysis and design, databases, networks, project management, and the strategic use of information technology in business contexts.

You will come to understand how an organisation's information systems need to adapt to the changes and developments natural to growth and progress, developing the practical and strategic understanding that employers in IT and business need from their graduates.

Graduates move into careers in systems analysis, software development, IT project management, business analysis, digital transformation consultancy, information management, and technology strategy roles across a wide range of industries. Postgraduate study in information systems, business, or related fields is an option for those wishing to specialise further.
