About this course

Business economics applies the analytical tools of economics to the challenges faced by organisations, markets, and policymakers, asking how firms make decisions, how markets function, and how economic forces shape the business environment. It is a discipline that sits between pure economic theory and management practice, giving you the rigour of economic analysis alongside a practical understanding of how organisations work in the real world.

This three-year full-time programme at Leeds Beckett University gives you a solid grounding in microeconomics, macroeconomics, statistical analysis, and business strategy, developing your ability to use economic reasoning to understand and solve real business problems. The sandwich year placement in your third year is a significant opportunity to gain professional experience before you graduate, with previous students having undertaken placements at a range of leading organisations. This kind of applied experience reinforces your academic learning and strengthens your CV in ways that classroom study alone cannot replicate.

A year abroad is also available for those who want to extend their international perspective, and work placement opportunities are integrated into the programme throughout.

Business economics graduates go on to careers in financial analysis, consultancy, corporate strategy, market research, public policy, banking, and a wide range of management roles. The combination of economic rigour and business understanding is valued by employers who need people capable of interpreting complex information and making sound decisions in competitive or uncertain environments. Many graduates also pursue postgraduate study in economics, finance, business, or public policy, and the analytical foundation you build in this programme is an excellent preparation for any of those routes.
