Business Information Systems with Foundation
Business information systems is a discipline at the interface of business management and information technology, concerned with how organisations design, implement, and manage the digital systems that support their operations, strategy, and decision-making. In the modern economy, almost every business function, from customer relationship management and supply chain to financial reporting and human resources, depends on information systems working effectively. At Westminster this four-year full-time programme includes a foundation year, which provides a preparatory stage to develop the academic and technical foundations you need before entering the main degree. The foundation year is available for students who are not ready for direct entry to the degree, whether because they lack the formal qualifications, want to change subject, or are returning to education. From there, the main degree develops your understanding of information systems design and management alongside core business knowledge, covering areas such as systems analysis, database management, enterprise systems, digital business strategy, and project management.
A sandwich year, a year abroad, and work placement experience are all built into the programme, providing professional experience in IT or business environments, international study, and a practical portfolio.
Graduates move into careers in IT management, systems analysis, business analysis, digital project management, enterprise systems consulting, and technology-driven business roles. The combination of business and IT knowledge is valued across every sector where organisations depend on digital systems, which in practice means virtually all of them. Many graduates also go on to postgraduate study in information systems, data management, or business.
