Business Management and Accounting

Business management and accounting is a degree that develops both the broad commercial knowledge needed to understand how organisations function and the specific financial expertise of accounting, which is the language through which organisations report their performance, manage their resources, and make investment decisions. Together, the two disciplines provide a versatile foundation: you will understand how businesses operate strategically and operationally, and you will also develop the technical knowledge of financial reporting, management accounting, and analysis that enables you to contribute to those decisions with precision and credibility.

At the University of Keele, this BA programme develops your critical thinking about different aspects of management alongside practical accounting knowledge and the transferable skills that employers across accountancy and management value. You will engage with core business disciplines including strategy, marketing, organisational behaviour, and operations, while also developing accounting competencies in financial reporting, cost management, budgeting, and the interpretation of financial data. The programme encourages you to see the connections between management thinking and financial practice, developing a rounded perspective on how organisations succeed or fail.

The programme includes a sandwich year, a year abroad, and a work placement, giving you substantial professional and international experience alongside your academic studies. Graduates move into a wide range of roles in accountancy, financial management, business analysis, consulting, and general management. Many pursue professional accounting qualifications with bodies such as ACCA, CIMA, or ICAEW, and a degree in business management and accounting can provide exemptions from parts of those routes. Postgraduate study in accounting, finance, or management is also a natural option.
