About this course

Business management and sustainability is a degree for students who recognise that the most pressing challenge facing organisations in the twenty-first century is how to create economic value while simultaneously reducing their impact on the natural world and contributing positively to the societies in which they operate. Sustainability is no longer an add-on to business strategy: it has become central to how leading organisations think about risk, opportunity, regulation, and the expectations of investors, customers, employees, and communities. Understanding both how businesses work and how sustainability principles can be integrated into every dimension of business decision-making prepares graduates to help organisations navigate this transformation.

At Nottingham Trent University, this three-year full-time degree develops the core disciplines of business management, including strategy, marketing, operations, finance, and organisational behaviour, alongside dedicated engagement with sustainability theory, practice, and policy. You will examine how environmental, social, and governance considerations are reshaping business models, supply chains, reporting frameworks, and competitive strategies across industries. The degree also includes the option of a year abroad, giving you the opportunity to study business and sustainability from the perspective of a different national and economic context.

Throughout the programme you will develop the analytical, commercial, and strategic thinking skills needed to translate sustainability principles into practical business decisions.

Graduates are prepared for careers across business, the public sector, and the growing sustainability profession. Roles include sustainability manager, ESG analyst, corporate responsibility consultant, supply chain sustainability specialist, strategy consultant, and general manager in organisations committed to operating sustainably. Many graduates also enter careers in environmental organisations, social enterprises, development finance, and impact investment, where the combination of business competence and sustainability commitment is particularly valued.

Postgraduate study in sustainable business, environmental management, or business administration provides a route for those seeking specialist depth before taking on senior roles.
