About this course

Business management is concerned with how organisations are structured, led, and operated, and with the decisions that determine whether they succeed or fail in complex and changing environments. The discipline draws on economics, psychology, and organisational theory to examine how resources are allocated, how people are motivated and coordinated, how markets are analysed and entered, and how strategy is developed and executed. Business management education at degree level develops both the technical knowledge of these areas and the leadership confidence and practical skills needed to apply that knowledge in real contexts.

At Manchester Metropolitan University this three-year full-time programme has been developed in collaboration with employers to equip you with knowledge, practical experience, and leadership skills suited to the modern working world. You will explore different business functions and interact with business professionals during your studies, developing an understanding of what organisations look like from the inside and what it takes to move a career forward in them. The programme includes a sandwich year and a work placement, giving you the opportunity to spend a substantial period in a professional environment before you graduate and to bring that experience back into your final year of study.

A summer internship is also an option for students who choose not to take the full sandwich year.

Business management graduates find roles across virtually every sector of the economy. Graduate programmes in management, marketing, operations, finance, human resources, consulting, and entrepreneurship are all accessible from this degree. The professional experience built through the sandwich year or internship is a significant advantage in competitive recruitment, giving you credibility and connections alongside your academic qualification.

Many graduates also pursue postgraduate study, including specialist master's degrees or professional qualifications in finance, marketing, or project management, while others move into entrepreneurial ventures drawing on the commercial skills and networks developed during the programme.
