About this course

Business management with analytics is a degree that responds directly to one of the most significant shifts in how organisations make decisions: the growing reliance on data. Effective management has always required good judgment, but modern organisations have access to enormous quantities of data about their customers, operations, markets, and competitors, and the ability to make sense of that data, to draw meaningful insights from it and to act on those insights strategically, is one of the most valuable capabilities a business graduate can possess. This combination of management expertise and analytical skill is in persistent and growing demand.

At Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh, this four-year full-time programme develops your understanding of the core disciplines of management, including strategy, marketing, finance, human resources, and operations, alongside a substantial strand in business analytics. You will develop practical skills in data analysis, statistical reasoning, data visualisation, and the use of analytical tools that are used in professional business environments. The programme is designed to ensure that your analytical skills are always grounded in business context: you will learn to ask the right questions of data, to interpret results in terms of business performance and strategic decisions, and to communicate findings clearly to decision-makers who may not have a technical background.

You will develop both the conceptual frameworks of modern management and the technical capability to work with data, a combination that is genuinely distinctive and valued by employers across every sector.

Graduates go on to careers in business analysis, marketing analytics, operations management, strategy, financial analysis, consultancy, and general management. The analytical skills developed transfer widely across industries, from retail and financial services to healthcare and the public sector. Postgraduate study in business analytics, marketing, management, or data science is a well-supported route for those wishing to specialise further.
