About this course

Business Studies is a degree that gives you a comprehensive grounding in how organisations work and how they are managed. It covers the full range of business disciplines, including marketing, finance, accounting, human resources, operations, strategy and entrepreneurship, developing both the theoretical understanding and the practical skills that employers look for in business graduates. The breadth of the degree is one of its strengths: you emerge with a coherent view of how different functions within an organisation relate to each other and to the wider competitive and economic environment.

At the University of Leeds, the four-year programme includes a foundation year, which provides a thorough preparation for degree-level business study. Leeds Business School is one of the largest and most established business schools in the UK, with strong industry connections and a wide range of placement and internship opportunities. The programme includes a sandwich year, a year abroad and a work placement, which means that across the full course you will have multiple opportunities to develop professional experience and international perspectives.

Leeds's location in a major northern city with a diverse economy gives you access to a broad range of business environments.

The breadth of business studies makes it one of the most versatile degrees you can hold. Graduates work across every sector of the economy, in roles ranging from marketing and sales to finance and consulting, from human resources to operations and supply chain management. Many join graduate training schemes at major companies, while others enter smaller businesses or start their own.

Public sector management, the third sector and entrepreneurship are also strong destinations.

Postgraduate study in business administration, management, marketing, finance or a specialist business field is a natural continuation for those who want to develop leadership expertise or specialise.
