About this course

Business technology sits at the increasingly blurred boundary between management and digital systems. Organisations in every sector depend on technology to manage information, automate processes, serve customers, and compete effectively, which means they need people who understand both the business context and the technical solutions. This degree prepares you to be that person, developing commercial and analytical skills alongside a working knowledge of the digital tools and systems that drive modern organisations.

At the University of the West of Scotland, this four-year full-time programme includes a sandwich year, giving you substantial professional experience in industry before your final year. This placement allows you to apply your learning in a real business environment, develop professional relationships, and build the practical competence that employers look for in graduates. You will study business strategy, project management, information systems, data analysis, digital marketing, technology management, and the principles of enterprise and entrepreneurship, developing the ability to think commercially about technology investments and to manage the human and organisational dimensions of digital change.

The programme prepares you to work at the interface of business and IT, understanding the needs of organisations and the capabilities of technology well enough to contribute to both.

Graduates in business technology go on to work in business analysis, IT project management, systems consultancy, digital transformation, operations, and technology strategy across a wide range of industries. The combination of business and technology skills is valued by employers who need graduates who can communicate across the divide between technical teams and business stakeholders. Many graduates choose to continue with postgraduate study in information systems, business, or technology management to develop specialist expertise.

A great decision
I was sceptical before starting β€” now I'd recommend it to anyone. The best part: the consulting projects with real companies genuinely prepare you for the working world. If I'm honest, the timetable has some awkward 9am / Friday afternoon s…

Genuinely worthwhile
The programme genuinely lives up to its reputation. The best part: the teaching staff are genuinely world-class and accessible. If I'm honest, admin can be slow to respond, especially at start of term. On the city β€” good transport links mak…
