About this course

Chemical engineering is the discipline that turns scientific understanding into industrial processes, taking the principles of chemistry, physics, mathematics, and increasingly biology, and applying them to the design and operation of systems that manufacture chemicals, fuels, pharmaceuticals, food, and advanced materials at scale. It is one of the engineering disciplines most directly connected to the major challenges of the coming decades, including sustainable energy, clean water, and the development of new therapies and materials.

At the University of Hull this four-year full-time programme includes a foundation year, providing students with the technical and mathematical grounding needed to enter the main degree from a broader range of starting points. Hull has close ties to the chemical and process industries of the Humber region, which is home to the UK's largest chemical cluster, and that industrial proximity shapes the practical character of the programme. You will study the core engineering science of the discipline, including thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer, reaction engineering, and process design, developing the quantitative problem-solving skills that chemical engineers use throughout their careers.
