Childhood and youth and social care is a degree that combines multidisciplinary academic study of children's and young people's lives with the values and skills needed to work effectively in professional care contexts. Childhood and youth studies draws on sociology, social policy, history, politics, and cultural studies to examine the issues and challenges children and young people face, in the UK and around the world, and to ask critical questions about how their experiences are shaped by social, economic, and institutional forces. Social care provides the professional dimension, focusing on the knowledge and skills that support children, young people, and families facing difficulty.
At Liverpool Hope University, this full-time, three-year programme gives you the opportunity to explore the issues and challenges children and young people face, from child poverty and safeguarding to educational inequality and the impact of social media. The combination of analytical frameworks and practice-oriented learning prepares you to work in settings where understanding children's lives and responding effectively to their needs go hand in hand. The programme includes a sandwich year, a year abroad, and a work placement, providing substantial professional and international experience that significantly strengthens your graduate profile in a sector where practical experience is highly valued.

Graduates from childhood and youth and social care programmes are well placed for careers in children's social work, family support, early help and intervention, youth work, residential care, education welfare, local authority children's services, and the voluntary sector.
