About this course

Computer science with a focus on cyber security develops the deep technical knowledge of computing systems alongside the specialist understanding of how those systems can be attacked and defended. As digital infrastructure becomes more critical to economies, governments and individuals, the ability to protect networked systems, detect intrusions, assess vulnerabilities and respond to incidents has moved from a niche technical concern to a strategic priority for organisations of every size and type. At Royal Holloway, University of London this three-year programme combines a strong computer science education with specialist cyber security content, within a department that has a long-established research reputation in information security.

You will study the fundamentals of computer science, including programming, algorithms, operating systems, networks and data structures, alongside the specialist security content covering cryptography, network security, penetration testing, malware analysis, security policy and digital forensics. A sandwich year provides a substantial period of professional experience in a security or technology role, and work placements and a year abroad are built in, developing your professional capability and international perspective in a field where experience and a broad network are real assets.
