About this course

Computer science is the discipline that underlies all of modern technology, combining the theoretical foundations of computation with the practical skills of programming and systems development. As new information and computing systems emerge continuously, computer scientists are called on to apply their knowledge to ever-changing real-world challenges, and the ability to reason rigorously about algorithms and systems while also implementing solutions in practice is the defining capability the discipline develops.

At the University of Northumbria at Newcastle, this extended four-year full-time degree provides additional time and support for developing the depth of knowledge and practical skill that the field demands. A sandwich year is built into the programme, giving you the opportunity to work in a computing role before your final year. A year abroad is also incorporated, and work placement is additionally available, meaning that by graduation you will have substantial professional and international experience alongside your academic training.

The extended degree format is designed for students who benefit from more time to consolidate their learning, without compromising the rigor and breadth of the qualification.
