About this course

Computer science is the discipline concerned with the theory, design, and application of computation. It asks fundamental questions about what can be computed, how efficiently, and by what means, and it provides the theoretical and practical tools that underpin everything from mobile applications and cloud platforms to machine learning systems, cybersecurity, and the operating software on which every modern device depends. The field moves quickly, but a strong degree in computer science gives you the foundational knowledge to adapt as technologies change rather than simply following the current stack.

At Nottingham Trent University, this four-year, full-time programme includes a year abroad, giving you the opportunity to study computer science in an international setting and to experience how the discipline is taught and applied in a different context. The academic years of the degree cover the core of the discipline: algorithms and data structures, software engineering principles, operating systems, computer networks, databases, and the mathematical foundations of computation. You will also develop practical programming competence across multiple languages and paradigms, and you will work on individual and group projects that develop your ability to design, build, and test complex software systems.
