About this course

Computer science is the discipline that provides the theoretical and practical foundations for all of modern computing, from the mathematical principles of algorithm design and computational complexity to the engineering methods used to build large, reliable software systems. At Loughborough University, this four-year, full-time programme includes a foundation year, which is designed for students who have not studied the prerequisite subjects needed for standard first-year entry, who did not meet their expected entrance requirements due to adverse circumstances or prior sporting commitments, or who are mature students returning to education or care leavers. The foundation year builds the mathematical and programming foundations needed to succeed in the main degree, and it is a genuine pathway into a rigorous computer science education rather than a reduced alternative to one.
