About this course

Computer Science is the study of computation in its full scope, from the mathematical and theoretical foundations that determine what can be computed and how efficiently, to the practical design and engineering of the software and hardware systems that underpin the digital world. It is a discipline that trains a particular way of thinking: systematic, abstract, and creative, capable of decomposing complex problems, designing elegant solutions, and reasoning about the correctness and performance of those solutions.

At Goldsmiths, this part-time programme includes an integrated foundation year and a sandwich year with work placement, making it accessible to students who cannot commit to full-time study and who need a more gradual entry point into degree-level computing. The foundation year provides the mathematical and computational building blocks needed before progressing into the main degree. Once into the core programme, you will study algorithms, data structures, programming paradigms, software engineering, computer architecture, databases, and the theory of computation, building both breadth of understanding and depth in areas of particular interest.

A work placement component connects your academic studies to professional practice, giving you experience of how computing is applied in real organisational contexts.
