About this course

Computer science is the study of computation, information, and the systems that process and communicate both. It encompasses the design of algorithms and data structures, the architecture of software and hardware systems, programming languages and their theory, networks and distributed systems, artificial intelligence, and the mathematical logic that underlies the discipline as a whole. This four-year full-time degree at the University of Law includes a foundation year, allowing students to build their academic and technical foundations before progressing into the main programme.

You will develop a systematic understanding of how computers and software work, learning to design, analyse, and implement computational solutions across a range of problem domains. The foundation year is designed to develop both technical skills and the communication and reflective abilities that professional computer scientists need, preparing you thoroughly for the more demanding work of the degree years. As the programme progresses, you will build the analytical rigour and practical programming competence that graduate employment in computing demands, developing an understanding of how to approach problems systematically and how to communicate technical solutions clearly.

Graduates from computer science programmes move into roles across the full breadth of the technology industry, including software development, web and mobile application development, systems analysis and architecture, data analysis, IT project management, cybersecurity, and technology consultancy. The University of Law's professional focus supports graduates in translating their technical education into career success. Many continue to further study or professional certifications, building on the foundation the degree provides.
