About this course

Computing science is the systematic study of computation, algorithms, software and the fundamental principles that underpin all modern digital technology. It develops the ability to think algorithmically and to design, build and analyse software systems, encompassing programming, data structures, computer architecture, databases, networks and the growing fields of artificial intelligence and machine learning. The skills developed through computing science are applicable across virtually every sector of the economy.

At the University of East Anglia, this four-year full-time programme includes a foundation element, providing thorough preparation in mathematics and programming before the main computing science degree begins. This makes the programme accessible to students who wish to build their technical foundations from a secure base before engaging with more advanced material. You will progress from the fundamentals of programming and mathematics through to software engineering, systems architecture, databases, algorithms, artificial intelligence and more specialist topics as you advance.

The foundation year gives you the grounding needed to engage confidently with the technical content of the degree.
