About this course

Computing science is the study of computation itself: what can be computed, how efficiently, and using what methods. It encompasses the theoretical foundations of algorithms and complexity alongside the practical engineering of software systems, databases, networks, operating systems, and the applications that run on them. The discipline is notable for the breadth of problems it can address, from designing the software that runs on embedded chips in medical devices to building the distributed systems that power cloud computing, and its graduates are among the most employable of any university-educated workforce.
