About this course

Computing is the discipline that underpins the digital age, encompassing everything from the algorithms that power search engines and social networks to the systems that manage financial transactions, support medical diagnosis, and enable global communication. A computing degree develops your understanding of how software systems are built, how hardware and software interact, how data is processed and stored, and how computing problems can be approached with rigour and creativity. At the University of Huddersfield, this four-year full-time programme begins with a foundation year, providing additional academic preparation for students who need to build their mathematical and technical foundations before entering degree-level computing. From that starting point you will progress into the core computing curriculum, studying programming, algorithms and data structures, operating systems, computer networks, databases, and software engineering. You will develop practical skills in programming languages and development tools that are used in professional contexts, alongside the theoretical grounding that enables you to understand and adapt to new technologies as they emerge.

The programme includes a sandwich year and work placement opportunities, giving you significant professional experience in the industry before you graduate.
